I tried searching for the thread, but was unsuccessful.  However, if I recall correctly, it was mentioned about a year ago that there were plans to revamp the Sportsman’s News forum with updated software, etc.  Unfortunately, this place has pretty much stalled out since the launch of the Pro Membership program.  There are only a very small handful of folks that post on here any more.  I’m guessing that there is another small handful that check in semi-regularly, but don’t post much because not much is really happening.  It seems that most of the users moved on when the monthly giveaways ended, which is unfortunate.  This place seemed to be getting going pretty well before that.

Are there any plans to revamp the forums or to try to re-energize things around here?  Or is the focus of the team solely on the Pro Membership (which, to their credit, seems to be an astounding success).

A suggestion on a related note – the banner above the forums list still says that there are monthly giveaways and odds of winning are better when you participate.  That should probably be removed.

On May 8, 2015, I suggested that the thread, participate in our forum and win a gun, should be removed since it was no longer true. Danjanovich disagreed with me and you agreed with Danjanovich. You must have changed your mind.Laugh

I remember that thread and went back and read through it again.  At that time, what we were being told (as far as the forum giveaways are concerned) is that one of their sponsors fell through and they were working on finding another one.  No issues there.

I was just pointing out that there are some updates around here that should probably be made and wondering what the forum/site owners’ plans are concerning the forum going forward.  The fact that it has been two weeks without a response pretty much answers that, I think.

BTW – good to see you still around, Blue.  I hope things are going well and that you are in good health.

The only change I would like to see is for the site administrators to bring back the email notifications. I used to get notified every time some one responded to a thread I had already commented it. Now I get nothing. Having the email notifications kept me more engaged, I really liked them. I wish they would bring it back.

The way things are now, it’s sometimes two or three weeks between posts, so you probably wouldn’t be getting many emails.Frown

You are correct that posts are much more spread out now in time. I just wonder if fixing the email notification system will remedy that. If folks are getting emails it will direct them back to the forums more often.

Looking into this as we speak. I believe it is an option you select, and not one we control, but this post is part of determining that.

Have you tried going into you Profile under “Subscriptions” and selecting the options “Autosubscribe to topics I post in”?  It seems like that should then notify you of any new posts within topics you have posted in.

I use to get the emails until the new program forum kicked off. I’ll go double check my settings but I never deselected anything.

My participation dropped considerably when things at work heated up.  When they cooled down later, there wasn’t much going on, and I didn’t have much to say.  I still tune in every so often, but not like I used to.

No I still cannot find a way to receive the email notifications, but I also ran into a seperate issue that I believe Mr. Kidder needs to know.

I don’t look for the gun giveaways to come back. If I remember right the guns were furnished by sponsors. The sponsors were attracted by the membership numbers and the posts. Although the forums has more than 15000 members now, only about 52 posts have been made in the last four months, averaging about 13 posts per month, most of them made by you and thesergeant. When the forums only had about 1000 members, there were almost as many posts made per day as there is per month now. The only way to get the giveaways started again is for members to start making regular posts, and it might be to late for that now.

I’m afraid you’re right, Blue.

I have noticed a few changes to the forums in the past several weeks.  For a while there was a very large, annoying add that popped up with every post.  Now every post includes links to share on other social media sites.  So it appears that the owners haven’t totally given up on it completely yet.

I was more interested to see if they had any plans on doing anything to revive the place.  Given the lack of input here in the last 3.5 months since I asked the question, I think I’ve got my answer.

I think they are still working on somethings as I have started, just this week, to get email notifications again of participation in the forum by other members as they make new posts. It had probably been over a year since I had received any notifications at all.

It seems they changed the format of the notifactions and you only get one email a day with updates.

They have updated the website again. I am hoping it turns around the interest in the forms and posts. I do enjoy reading everyone’s stories about their outdoor adventures.

Agreed.  I noticed the change last week as well.  I guess the admins haven’t totally given up on this place yet.

Is the upgrade making it more difficult to navigate on your cell phone? It looks messed up and confusing to me. I don’t know if I am missing some sort of app or download that I am suppose to be using.

I don’t know.  I’ve never tried browsing on my cell phone.  Usually just on a desktop computer.

I did notice last week, though, that things were a bit messed up.  That seems to have been worked out now.

Never done cell phone either:  not that great of a platform, IMO, for something like this.  However, the switch many have made from desktop to cell over the past few years might be one cause for the decline.

So might the bugs.  E.g., the “Quote” box on mine, which I used for this replay.  It only copied the “wyflyguy said” portion, and not the following text (which I cut and pasted myself).

I’ve met a lot of good people here, but it is difficult to keepup with a list.  I’ve been on some over 25 years, and have seen a drop over the past five or so in participation.  Maybe I should be a part of the solution and post more often.  Just not sure I have that much to say.

I am having problems today with the forum as it is now telling me I do not have permission to post pictures. I do not know if there is an error on the forum today or if this a result of the new format.

Is anyone else having problems uploading pictures to the forum? I continue to get error messages saying I do not have permission. Does anyone know if this a change to the structure or a technical glitch that is on going?
