Anyone been into anything fun this summer? Its been a lot of work and little play here. 9 month old and wife working most weekends really makes it difficult to get out. The non-stop rain hasn’t helped either. Heck I can’t even remember the last time I caught a fish!

Anyway, hope the rest of yall are beating the heat and having some fun. Not long til the games begin.

Visited my parents a few weeks back and took my dad’s boat out on the lake with him and two of my boys (7 and 3).  Fished all night and half of the next day.  Came home with 5 catfish and 25 striped bass.  Great time!

Sounds like an awesome time. Most of the access to the place I usually fish has been shut down due to a waterline repair. It’s really hurt my fishing and basically eliminated my main spot to work the dog. It should reopen soon though. I’m thinking a night out catfishing is just what I need. I just wish it wasn’t still in the 80’s when the sun goes down.

We were fishing Lake Mead outside of Las Vegas, NV.  Daytime high on the lake was around 112.  Over night low was around 85-90.  Still a good time, though.

Lot’s of work, not much play so far this summer.  Gotta change that formula.  Wife and I are are taking a train ride tomorrow through the Royal Gorge – should be fun.

Been too hot to do much of anything. Spent a day at the lake last week just to swim in the water with my buddy and the kids. Planing on going back to the lake to swim next week. The following week we are going to do some night fishing for catfish and stripped bass.

Those who would sacrafice their freedom for a little bit of security deserve neither.

Sounds like we’re all in the same boat.

On a good note, my garden is starting offer me rewards for my labor. My tomatoes are finally starting to get ripe and cucumbers are coming in like crazy. Already had a couple jalapenos, and I swear homegrown peppers are much hotter than store bought. Couple watermelons are close to being ready as well. My squash got destroyed by wind/rain, but the kale has grown great. May try to get a planting of beans in this weekend and will definitely be scattering turnips seeds before long.

Man, that sounds great.  I only have a small vegetable garden and larger flower plantings around the place.  Most everything got severely damaged by the hailstorms we’ve had this summer, though.  My tomatoes look like somebody shot them.

So we beat the summer time blues and heat yesterday by embracing the great outdoors and using it to our advantage! While much of the state of Arizona was under excessive heat advisory yesterday we go on a boat and spent a day playing in the water. It was much too hot to sit still fishing but was just right for sitting in the water or being dragged across it. My wife, son, and I  went out with a buddy and his family for about 5 hours on the lake. We had a blast. The 8 year old took his first tube ride by himself and did very well. We also ran into a lot of Arizona’s Wild Burros. Sometimes I spend days at this lake and don’t see one and some days I get out there and seem to be overrun by them. Yesterday was an overrun day. But the kids had never seen them so we were able to point them out, talk about them, along with some hawks, turkey vultures, and squirrels. Good Day. (Had more pics and a video of the kid being pulled on the lake but the rules of the website won’t let me upload them)

Thats great. I’d probably be as excited as a little kid if I ever saw a wild burro

Looks like a great day.

We see burros like those quite frequently in southern Nevada as well.  Kind of cool.

Not yet.  Last week my wife and I closed on our first home so we’re busy packing and getting ready to move.  Will be headed to the mountains in a few weeks to chase deer, though.  Can’t wait!

Hope it goes well for you. I’ve been stuck in the house the last couple weekends but plan on getting out tomorrow. We managed a couple ducks during the early season. Now I just have to entertain myself trying to get some venison until birds come back in on Thanksgiving.
