LUXURY! This is the one word that says it all when you talk about Dove Island Lodge. The Sportsman’s News team has visited hundreds of lodges in the last 8 years and I have yet to see one who rivals Dove Island Lodge. Duane and Tracie who own Dove Island lodge are originally from Napa, California and have now taken their passion of quality and customer service to a whole new level for Alaska. The lodge itself is situated on its’ own private island near the town of Sitka, Alaska. Tracie has thought of every little detail in the decoration of the lodging and it is five star all the way. Each and every meal is an “Event” to cherish anywhere in the world, let along on a fishing trip. Rooms are all private with personal Jacuzzi on each deck to finish off your day. They have a private wine cellar that is so well stocked with premium wines, I could probably say with confidence that they are the single largest wine cellar in the state of Alaska. The Fishing, almost forgot that I was explaining a fishing lodge, but it is nothing short of spectacular. The Sitka area is known for its’ huge supply of bait fish and all the salmon know it as well. All five species of Pacific Salmon spend a lot of time off the coast of Sitka, Island and the guides who work for Duane and Tracie know how to find them and have the equipment to get it done. If ocean fishing is your passion, you will have great success and a lot of fun. The river systems around this area are a crown jewel as well, and with Duane being a licensed pilot who owns his own plane, he can get you to the most of remote spots around. Steelhead and river run salmon are a favorite of mine and the staff at Dove Island lodge delivered up an experience that I won’t ever forget. If you want great fishing and luxury is your main focus, look no further than Dove Island Lodge. – written by Michael Deming
