Alaska is well known for having quite possibly the best fishing on earth. From its untapped rivers, countless wild streams, spectacular mountain lakes and pristine ocean waters, there is simply no better place on earth to wet a line and in most cases, it is not only called fishing – its’ called catching!
One of the most outstanding areas in this seemingly endless wilderness is the Juneau/Gustavus area in southeast Alaska. Gustavus is known for having the world’s best halibut fishing. If you want to catch all five species of salmon or gigantic halibut, Glacier Bay Eagles Nest Lodge is the place for you.
Halibut fishing many times can be found at the bottom of the to do list – not because fishermen don’t want to secure some scrumptious white fillets, but because they hate fishing in depths usually in the 300 ft. range, while using four to five pound weights to keep their bait in ‘the zone’. Well, that is one of the beauties of the Gustavus/Glacier Bay area, as not only are the prime fishing waters only a short boat ride away, the fishing is mostly done in depths closer to the 100 ft. deep range, a welcomed relief to say the least. And because of their location, you will have the opportunity on most days to fish for multiple species if you would like, filling your days with excitement and plenty of beautiful fish in the box that will soon make their way back home to the dinner table!
Glacier Bay Eagles Nest Lodge will definitely supply the opportunity, it is up to you to reel ‘em in! Their season runs from June through September. Give Kent Huff and his staff a call to set up a trip you will not soon forget to the most beautiful place on earth. – written by Kent Danjanovich
